Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

These are two greeting cards received by a girl during her ten month experience with a high level somatic narcissist.
Thank heavens she has a name for this now... the education has been critical for her recovery. He always considered himself quite unique, different, not run-of-the-mill, offbeat... and proudly so. He is, in fact, common as they come. There are so many of his kind out there leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

The right card was for Valentine's Day [February] and the left one was for her birthday [July].

Notice that he has not addressed her...he 'feels' this way towards many and not one-in-particular.
Notice that neither card has his name on it... 'he' doesn't really exist.
Notice, too, that the handwriting is entirely incongruous from one to the next - the entity of himself is entirely malleable.  February to July correlates well with the slipping of his facade.

She is not one to splash intimate details of her personal life online. But, on this occasion, I have encouraged her to do it, in some way, anonymously or through me. Writing 'awful' out is healing and enlightening [sometimes what we see and hear hits home more than that which we are still thinking]. Saying things out aloud helps us tune more strongly into our intellect, which is more constructive than wallowing in our pool of emotions. And, hopefully, her impending missives will save another one like her from this emotionally sapping and horribly confusing trip, or comfort another who has endured the same by reminding them that they are not alone.

In this case, the oasis she ran towards in her personal desert was nothing but a mirage. Watch this space for more...or learn some more. Be aware.
